Las Vegas, Eastern Nevada state parks (January 2011)
I have been in Las Vegas many times. This is the first time to be in Las Vegas during winter. It was quite chilly, late sunrise and early sunset made the mornings and evenings even cold. |

The Eastern Nevada state parks are close to each other and about 180 miles north of Las Vegas. The four state parks are (1) Chathedral Gorge state park, (2) Echo Canyon state park, (3) Spring Valley state park , and (4)Kershaw-Ryan state park. I visited quickly the first three, the fourth one was unreachable due to a closed road. The Cathedral Gorge state park is a long, narrow valley where erosion has carved dramatic and unique patterns in the soft bentonite clay. I could not do the trails due to winter conditions. The trails were full of mud, snow, and ice. I could do the roads by car. I entered the park once from the South entrance and driving North, and a second time from the Northern entrance towards the Miller overviewpoint. |

The second park is the Echo Canyon state park. The park is a 65-acre reservoir, which was now frozen. |

Along the road from Echo Canyon state park towards Spring Valley state park were some nice rock formations, showing the different geological layers. The third park is Spring Valley state park, this is a 65-acre reservoir. The valley is narrower compared to Echo Canyon state park. |

Time to go home ! I had a connection flight in Chicago. At the time of exchange a snowstorm came over the area and I was able to make some nice pictures during the de-icing of the aircraft. |
