The very last day before leaving home!

The very last day before my departure for #ibmcsc China

It's weird, despite weeks of preparation I felt totally unprepared to leave home for such a long period. Going to Xiamen for the CSC project has always been something in the future, now it's there! There were still so many things to do, and it's less then a day before leaving. I have put aside all the stuff I am going to take with me: clothes, waking shoes, sleeping bag, photo gear, a bunch of chargers, and as gifts several packages of Belgian chocolates and sweets. Belgian chocolates for the team will do, for sure! But wondering how the 2 kg of 'cuberdons' will be perceived by the team. I'm sure that's something unknown. Looking at the stuff, I feel a bit uncomfortable with the few clothes I am taking with me for such a long period. Why should I worry, I always travelled light and can buy what's really missing. I have to buy winter clothes anyway; I need them for the last week when traveling but couldn't take them with me as mine are still in Switzerland. I also took several old clothes, so not a big risk in case my luggage would get lost and can trash some of them in case I buy too much new stuff. That's by the way one of my travel advices when traveling to countries where stuff is cheaper.

Today was big rush. After the kids left home I jumped into the first conference call with a customer and colleagues. Right after the call I drove to the office to hand over the open points to colleagues. I'm curious on how the business will evolve during my absence. Back home I had 5 minutes for lunch before rushing to my orthodontist for a last dental check before leaving. Making a last call to my best friend, he deserves it. At 3PM I am back in the car for very last conference call with the CSC team members before we will all meet in Xiamen! We had so many calls as a team, but this one is a bit different knowing next time we will meat each other in person! My last stop of the day was a short visit to my parents to say goodbye. Back home I could finally start to pack! I have put everything into one piece of luggage and the valuable stuff into my backpack. Ready!

It had a mixed feeling when having a last evening meal with the family. I haven’t been so long away from home since 15 years. Why the hell have I ever subscribed to this program? Too late for big thinking, tomorrow I will be gone, leaving an empty space at the table behind me. Why did I ever came to the idea of subscribing to this program? Too late now .... I will miss you family & friends! Let's remain optimistic, hope this an opportunity to make some new friends.
