Braces for 6 months

I blogged before about my braces. People still ask me a lot of questions. I am not an orthodontist, but will give it a trial to report on the progress. First I post a picture of plaster model of my mouth and highlight the corrections the orthodontist is trying to resolve.

Major corrections required:

1. Upper molars are tilted to the ouside + are rotated

2. Lower molars are tilted to the inside + Scissor bite.

3. Lower molars are tilted to the inside.

The combination of the lower molars tilted to the inside with the upper molars tilted to the outside results in a cross-bite.

Minor corrections:

4. The canines are rotated and out of the line.

5. Incisors not in a line.

6. Incisors and canines not levelled.

Now, here a list of all braces so far, and the progress.
Sept 2010 First, the blue braces (my favourite colour), mainly working on tilting the molars. Also double wires used to level the canines and incisors.
Nov 2010 Second, the Halloween braces in orange and black, also mainly to tilt the molars. Still double wires to level the canines and incisors.
Dec 2010 Third, the X-mas braces in red and green, and first power clips (below), still mainly to tilt the molars. Still double wires (upper wires are both in the brackets) to level the canines and incisors.
Jan 2011 The purple and yellow braces, and first springs (below). The springs are painful as they scrub on the inside of the mouth. The springs create a separation between the pre-molars and the incisors, the space is needed to allow rotation the canine in the future.
Feb 2011 The dark red braces, temporary no springs but power clips on the incisors. In addition elastics between the molars (not visible).
Feb 2011 The red braces, back with double wires, springs, and power clips.
Feb 2011 The pink braces, in addition to the previous braces an arch between the left and right molars.
March 2011 The black braces, no more elastics between the upper and the lower molars. Therefore, power chains and elastics to start rotating the canines.

Now we are 6 months later! Herewith the progress for the 6 points mentioned above:

1. The molars on the left side are almost upright, on the right side there is still some work to do.

2. No more scissor bite!

3. Lower molars still a bit tilted to the inside, in particular on the right side.

4. The canine still in place, to be done in the next months.

5. The lower incisors still to be put in a line, for the next months.

6. Levelling has improved, looks already much better.

Al least everything is moving into the right direction. I am looking forward to see the progress over the next months.

Ath the beginning of the treatement: Upper lateral incisor has no space and higher than frontal incisor.

6 months later: space created between front incisor and canine and upper lateral incisor levelled.
