NAB 2008

Last week was another outstanding NAB event for IBM. This year the show was totally different compared to the previous years; the impact of IT on the media industry changed tremendously the landscape of the show. The last years the show was still dominated by the traditional industry players and throughout the show floor IT concepts were sneaking in. Since last year IT based solutions and concepts were already present, but this year they dominated the show floor. Everywhere IT based workflow concepts, IT based storage solutions, IT based production ... etc popped up, all the stuff we have been pushing for years at IBM. Even some booths had SOA and workflows although not the same level as the IBM value proposition demonstrated. IBM booth NAB
IBM's booth theme was ruled by Innovation this year "Deliver Innovation. One experience at a Time". The key highlights according to my opinion at IBM were this year:
- Using our Media Hub framework (SOA implementation for Media) to integrate various applications from ISV's. The end-to-end workflow integration realised on the booth was an outstanding demonstration of our capabilities. The flexibility of our solution in terms of process modelling astonished the visitors.
- The content sharing platform implemented by our partner Filmpartners from The Netherlands on our platforms were another outstanding demonstration on how content can be seamless shared between Content Editing Workstations at an amazing performance.
- The amazing performance of our Cell technology demonstrated by the real-time transcoding of an HD videostream into a H264 stream. Just thrilling !
Last but not least a masterpiece of the software and integration capabilities by demonstrating the virtualization of the metadata of content across different applications.

Not only the IBM booth demonstrated leadership, we also differentiated ourselves during the conference sessions. Due to our long term commitment to the media industry and in depth experience since years enabled us to distinguish ourselves clearly from the other IT players who had a recent focus on the industry. Some pitches from other consulting companies with high reputation were boring, pitches with neither content nor a clear message.
We had a large interest from customers and prospects coming from BeNeLux, amazing how every year again dozens of people travel to the other side of the globe to join this show. For us every year again an incredible occasion to meet the whole of the media community in a few days time. It makes it worth the trip
